Using the "twin superpowers of creativity and design," this woman-owned business provides high-quality, affordable remodeling and construction services to clients large and small. Twenty years ago, when Lori Reese (center) started her business, potential clients were more skeptical and saw her as a "cute" novelty. Back then, it took effort to gain potential clients' trust and confidence. Now, it's just about the work, and the fact that she's a woman-owned business in a traditionally male field is not a big deal.

Lori Reese, the owner of Wonderwoman Construction, based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, didn't start out thinking she'd one day own a successful construction company. After graduating from college with a degree in business, she took a summer job weatherizing buildings, because she needed to start paying off her student loans. Affirmative action got her a well-paying union job, and she never looked back.
Now, because she once got a break, Lori has made it her goal to do the same for other women. Though her crews are made up of women and men, one of her missions is to hire and train women, and to help them gain the skills and confidence they need to succeed. Saving clients money in the long run is also a focus, and toward that end, the company uses sustainable construction practices and works with clients to incorporate their earth-friendly preferences.
